Delicious Garlic, Meaty Tomato Sauce

Hubby has been wanting comfort foods lately – he wants stew, chili, and spaghetti. I told him that it is not the appropriate season for some hearty beefy chilly so we end up with pasta. And, I have perfected my recipe. Do you know how I know that? My sister and her hubby loved it so much that they got the ingredients to make it.

My sister has tried to teach me how to cook multiple times, always unsuccessful. Not for lack of teaching skills but because I was physically unable to prepare foods. It’s true. Pretty sure it was a medical conadition that was finally able to be magically cured. I’m sure I have told you the story of the mac n’ cheese that started on fire… right? She and my brother-in-law are probably the best cooks EVER – seriously, everything they make is incredible. They liked my pasta sauce and that pretty much made my year! That goes into the vault of #proudmoments. So for you two, loves, I share my recipe!

Garlic + Meat Tomato Sauce

What you need

2 cans organic tomato sauce

2 cans diced tomatoes

2 tbs olive oil

1lb ground beef

1lb ground Italian sausage, mild or spicy – you choose!

1 small sweet onion, diced

5 cloves minced garlic – the more garlic, the better!

1 tbs Italian seasoning

1 tbs garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp basil

Salt + pepper, to taste

What to do

  1. Brown ground beef and Italian sausage in a little bit of olive oil
  2. When cooked through, remove from pan and let drip in a colander to drain some of the grease
  3. Add your olive oil to the same pan you cooked the meat in, then add your garlic and diced onion.
  4. Once onion is translucent, add your diced tomatoes and sauce and your seasonings.
  5. Let simmer a few minutes then add in your cooked meat and stir well
  6. Do the smell test – does it smell like it tastes delicious? If not, add some more seasonings.
  7. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat and let simmer as long as you like. Mine simmers for about 10-15 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare whatever you plan to serve this lovely sauce on top of. My favorites – whole wheat noodles when I am feeling a little scandalous or zucchini/squash noodles.
